Musa Basjoo Planting
I just received two musa basjoo plants last week. Been in the ground for about 5 days now. They don't seem to be doing anything and the leaves are starting to turn yellow and are beginning to droop. Is this normal? How long does it take for them to take off? Is there anything I need to do? I did use compost and soil mix as well as put some milorganite in it. Please help don't want to kill them. I live in Iowa zone 5

Re: Musa Basjoo Planting
Could be sun burn as well. I was told to harden them in pots and wait till 2 feet tall to plant. I'm in zone 5b.

Re: Musa Basjoo Planting
They will be fine just leave them be and watch the watering. Don't fertilize until they start growing. The were probably just separated from the mother and they need to adjust to life on their own. They will wilt like that most times after being separated.

Re: Musa Basjoo Planting
My Musa Basjoo are now beginning to grow after about 2 weeks in the ground. I still have the original brown spotted leaves and leaves with some dried edges but the new leaves are coming in beautifully. Should I remove the damaged leaves?
This is my first experience with any type of banana plant so any and all advice is much appreciated! Banana Gallery - MarySue Gallery Last edited by MarySue : 05-13-2016 at 02:37 PM. |

Re: Musa Basjoo Planting
If there is green still on the leaves then no I wouldn't.
After they get mostly brown then you can. If they were actively growing already then it wouldn't matter but right now they can use the extra help to get going.
