![]() My musa basjoo plants are starting to turn brown and one of the stalks has a black streak. I have had these guys for 3plus weeks and put them in bigger pots. they get 1 to 2 hrs morning sun then 4hrs or more of sun in the afternoon, that is when we get the sun. I have been watering them every other day. So I am guessing that the black is from over watering I have not used any fertilizer on the plants. IMG][IMG]

![]() I'm sure you will get an answer from more knowledgeable people than me but that is what has happened when I have over watered mine.

![]() How well do the pots drain? how big are the plants? What kind of potting mix did you use? And can you try posting the pics again because I don't think they came through, at least I can't see them.

![]() Sorry, for some reason I couldn't see the pics but I found them. Looks like overwatering to me. Your potting mix looks like it could be heavy. It should drain rapidly when you water it, does it. I would consider taking the plants out of the pots and washing the mix off the roots, remove an rotting material, and repot in a 50:50 mix of perlite and commercial, well draining potting mix. Some might suggest you consider soaking the root mass in a bleach solution prior to repotting.
There are lots of very detailed posts on this exact issue if you peruse the site. Here is a quick video showing how a pot should drain. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=...&v=o4YHqyQHSqw

![]() So I bought a big bag of perlite and mixed it in with my 3 potted plants. The roots looked nice and white so I mixed at a good 50% perlite to the soil and compost. Seems like they are draining better with the new mix. I just put fertilizer on them so I hope they get out of their funk. I will post new pictures in another week.
It does look as the new leaves Don’t have any black on them as of now. The next thing for me is start planing for winter outside in their pots. Dose anyone use cut grass as mulch during their winter? |
