So how can this be done when it is not the season to be using fertilizers??

The affected plant is not a banana but in fact a lemon tree.

However the question remains how do you do this if out of season

I don’t think there is anything you can do that will take immediate effect. What I think you could do, is use a soluble 20-20-20 fertilizer every time you water it(which should be very infrequent because it’s dormant), Then by spring it should be good.

Where do you live? Here in Florida, our citrus is active year round, and fruits in the winter. I fertilize year round.

Not enough info to answer your question. .... You should be in USDA zone 9b to 11 to grow lemon trees. Then give a proper citrus formulated fertilizer per the size of the tree "YEAR ROUND". Some cold hardy lemons do grow well in zone 8b & 9a. .... If you are doing this, then you need to determine the "root cause" of the deficiency to make a correction. Improper fertilizer and/or To little or too much citrus fertilizer may be the cause of the problem. Too much of some elements can prevent plant roots from taking up other needed elements. .... And soil Ph can be a problem.

In UK you might be bringing potted plants in for the winter ....if that is so you might want to try this.
This is a quick fix for a few issues for many differnt types of plants.
An internet search on its use with plants will give you a good idea.

Sorry I forgot that this is a lemon tree, you don’t want to use a 20-20-20(that’s for bananas), i read one place for citrus trees a 5-2-6 is good
