Fruit growth

The growth in length, caliper and circumference of parthenocarpic, edible Musa fruits is linear. Growth in fruit length ceases early in development, with the subsequent increase in fruit size due to radial growth (Morse and Robinson, 1996). The growth in volume, fresh and dry weight is exponential until just before ripening begins (Simmonds, 1953; Turner and Barkus, 1982), although growth can often be described as linear over short time intervals. Final fruit size depends on finger size at bunch emergence, the growth rate and in practical terms, when the fruit is harvested (Turner, 1997).

From the two books that I have read, Length increases linearly for about 30 days and grade increases over the entire cycle. Some length increase is reported to occur after 30 days, but it is due to cell expansion as opposed to cell division.

Yea, it's fairly obvious to anyone that's grown a banana but this was the first time that I saw it in print.
