![]() I was wondering why my Blue Java mother plant had barely pushed at all when the pups have been rocketing.
I cut about 1ft of Pstem after winter so it's only 6ft tall When it pushed out the tiny flag leaf I thought for sure it was just stunted Then to my surprise today I saw this and now it makes sense Unfortunately it only has a small leaf and an even smaller flag leaf The smallest pup has bigger leaves I'm stoked and really want to try Blue Java but I'm not entirely sure I'll get good edible bananas like this. Hopefully the 3 pups can help provide some energy. At the very least I'm hoping it'll be enough to get verification they are the real deal Blue Java ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() At least is has some sort of leaves. You saw what happened to me. I never even saw the flag leaf lol
Edit: This was taken about an hour ago. A month or so in. I mean is it possible these will fill out? On a 12' pstem with ZERO leaves. ![]() Last edited by wstrickland1 : 04-22-2022 at 08:00 PM. |

![]() I have eaten this banana flower before. There are a few recipes that I learned. Dishes like banana flower salad. It's quite a feat, but it's quite delicious.

![]() The Blue Java flower won't be any good. Bugs were already eating it.
I want to blame the bugs but I'm sure the plant is just too weak. Is the flower enough for an ID? ![]() ![]() On the bright side... it decided to say it's sorry by giving me a new pup ![]() But even better... My Orinoco is flowering!!! BIG FLOWER! W00T! ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() I'm sorry, that's disappointing you can't at least identify it.

It got to about 7ft pstem last year but after winter I cut it down to 6ft and that's when it flowered right after winter. It had it pretty rough but it was growing for a while now so it's not surprising it decided to flower even though it was still relatively small. It's pups are doing great they are growing like crazy they'll definitely get full size by the end of the year.
