Florida hill gros michael??
I was poking around and i saw that Florida hill nursery seems to be offering Gros Michael plants for only 7 bucks. Yes i am completely aware of it's reputation, but if this is actually the case...

Re: Florida hill gros michael??
i have ordered from them several times with out any problems..i have wondered why 'a reputation'??just think what it would be like WITHOUT tissue culture in bananas..you would be paying 5000$ for your gros michael if you could find one..if only pups and corms were possible..opinon from me.not a spokes person

About the reputation, Just search them on this forum. I think you will be surprised.

Re: Florida hill gros michael??
There is a member on here who has Gros Michel's for sale. You will probably have a better experience.

Re: Florida hill gros michael??
I sure they have them. They get them from agristarts grow them out a little bit and sell them. I think that some of the issues arise from poor labeling and somatic mutation. I've purchased over 2000 plants from agristarts and sometimes you don't know what you are getting until 18 months later. Tissue culture is great for producing disease free plants. I'm pretty sure the tc gros michel is what it is supposed to be. The best bet is to wait it out and see what these tc plants do. There are a bunch of people out there that think they have misi luki and ice cream that have variations of pisang awak.

Re: Florida hill gros michael??
I don't know where people are getting the idea they have bad rep. They've been great with me, but yes, I would also feel it's a bit sketchy to get a TC Gros Michel from a big nursery that can't even offer real Ice Cream bananas. If I had room and if the price was cheap like the rest of theirs, I'd go for it just out of curiosity.

Re: Florida hill gros michael??
The price is pretty cheap, 8 bucks. (turns out it was actually 7.99, made me almost fall for that its-a-dollar-cheaper-then-it-actually-is trick. darn.)

Re: Florida hill gros michael??
Go to the thread I linked at the bottom of this post and read it. Then, you will know what they mean by a "bad rep."It really sucks, cause it seems that these guys have a good selection and high quality plants, they also have low shipping and everything as well as really good reviews on other sites. If only the owner wasn't an a**hole...

Well, it's good I know now. I guess I just didn't notice previously.

Re: Florida hill gros michael??
The price was good, so I got just a few bananas from them. I got Musa Veinte Cohol, Musa Sumatrana X, Musa Gros Michel, Musa Zebrina, Musa 1000 Fingers, Musa African Rhino Horn and Double Mahoi. You can view the photos under 2013 in the photo gallery. When the trees get a little larger I will plant them in the ground and post more pictures.
I'm no expert on banana's, so hopefully I didn't just buy the same banana tree as 7 different kinds. All the babies are doing good. Susan |

Do not hold your breath on that. Be happy if you really got some banana plants and not something else, but do not count them to be labeled correctly. Did not order from them myself, but a good friend of mine did get three ornamental banana plants instead of the dessert varieties she ordered. Pretty ones but disappointing! |
Re: Florida hill gros michael??
Just as a test, i got a dwarf red and a double mahoi from them. Thedwarf red looks like a dwarf red and the mahoi looks like how any cavendish should, so i think they are OK with at least common cultivars.
