![]() What do you mean? It could have any number of leaves when fruiting...just depends on how well it is kept and pruned. Or do you mean how many leaves will it produce along the way before fruiting? I can't help you there....didn't know it was a science like that. And honestly, I don't keep track of that sort of thing either. Hopefully someone will shed some light on this for ya, though!

![]() Shannon do you mean it has that many leaves on it when it's fruiting or that it put out that many before it fruited. None of my banana plants keep more than ten or so leaves on at a time.

![]() From what I have read, different varieties do bloom after a rather specific number of leaves have pushed out--it does not matter how many are on the stem at the time. I have one Orinoco that bloomed in June with just 5 leaves--the other only has 7. I do not know how many it takes for DC, but an article I just read about Jamacian Reds suggest it blooms consistiently after 33-35 leaves have been produced---the flower starts to form at the base of the corm after about 24-25 leaves.

![]() Well, the number of leaves a plant has at any time depends on the care it is given. If it isn't taken care of well, the lower leaves will turn brown and die...leaving fewer leaves on the plant. However, if you take good care of your plants and they don't get excessively shredded/broken by wind, it can have 10+ leaves. I don't really know that the number of leaves has any correlation to fruiting (but I could be wrong). It generally depends on the height of the plant, width of pseudostem, age of the plant, etc...but even that isn't a perfect science.
