My DC has a new leaf now for a while. It's not the size of a typical leaf, but then it hasn't totally unfurled yet. Now another leaf is growing inside it and is almost the same size. Does this mean this is a flag leaf? Am I going to be a daddy? Or just the owner of a bizarre DC?

i have had the same thing on one of my dc the other leaf unfurled all the way and the first one just stoped growing i have no idea why i cut that first leave out and the rest have been growing good since

Its not about to flower. This happens sometimes when they are too stressed out in a small container.

thanks mine was in in a smaller pot it was root bound bad

Mine did something similar. I think your pot is too small...maybe check the roots?
Otherwise, it looks like a happy, healthy plant!

So I should cut off the top leaves? I don't see any further growth, and don't want the p-stem to rot. I'll also have to find a larger pot. Thanks all.

I've seen this happen many times as growth rates begin to increase as warmth and humidity increases. Good growing!

hi Everyone,

In winter I keep the Cavendishes inside the house (live in The Netherlands, temperatures in winter below 32F). The entangling of the leaves occurs when you keep it growing (watering too much) because there is not enough daylight. It also occurs when you give it too much fertilizer.

I took these pictures today. One cavendish (put it outside, 50F at night) already started growing and shows longer stem/leaves.

Stress - water stress due to lack of it in my case.

For me this condition of uneven sized leaves happens all the time when I am away for a few days. This is especially evident with the plants in the smaller pots. When I am around, they are pampered with at least 2-3 times of watering a day. When I am away, my sis comes around and waters once a day. So when I get back from my trips, they will look like idiots till the next leaf.

My experience is that it is a temp and light change....sometimes my orchids do the same thing...just leave it...if the conditions are right the next leaf should be fine!

Same thing happend to my SDC. I planted it next day it came from nursery. Lower leaves are burned by sun and new one looks just like one in photo. I will let it be!

I finally cut the 'clogged' leaf, allowing it to open. The problem has since disappeared. This seems like a DC or SDC problem.
