Cardava banana?

I just got home from a local nursery. I asked them what kinds of banana plants they had. They have Dwarf Cavenish, and Cardava. I've never heard of Cardava. They could only tell me it gets fruit that is better than Cavendish. Please, what is a Cardava? They sold for $49.99 in five gallon pots, and were about 5 feet tall.

Thanks,
Anna

Sounds like a typo & it's really Cardaba (v is right next to b when you're typing :) ).

Anna, Cardaba is a cooking banana and Cavendish is a dessert banana so I'm not sure why they would compare them. $50 seems like a lot of money for a Cardaba.

Oops - I must have read it/remembered it wrong!

I'm glad I asked before I bought one. That particular nursery seems to be over-priced on most things. Although they do have several 50% off sales throughout the year, and that's when I usually buy there.

Thanks!

I had never heard of this type either. So other than it being a cooking type banana, can you tell us anything else about it? (what size it gets to, hardiness, etc).

I have never grown Cardaba but here is the description from the Going Bananas website. I have heard that it is a relatively cold hardy plant.

"A Philippine cooking variety that is a truly an attractive plant with a bluish hue to the fruit and very white pulp. The fruit is stubby and irregular in shape but can get quite large. Height 10-12 ft."
