Can you guesstimate for me???

Hey there banana friends, I was wanting to share a few pics of our nanners. I am wondering if you may have an idea or a guessing range of when I could expect a flag leaf?
In the first pic you can see my super dwarf namwah and tall namwah.

This is the super dwarf that I've taken two pups from and it currently has three pups on it. The super dwarf is over a year old. The trunk is about as big as a basketball. The entire height is about 4 feet tall.

This pic is my tall namwah which isn't even a year old yet but has 6 pups and is pushing out a leaf every 7 days of so. It's trunk is about as big as a basketball and I'm 5'11", I can stand under it and stretch my arms up and can't touch the highest leaves.

I can't speak for the super dwarf, but the tall one isn't making a flower anytime soon...

The Super Dwarf looks like a Cavendish. I had one flower once, but the baby bananas didn't develope. The Namwah looks very nice. It will probably get close to 12' before it produces a flower.

Looks like a super dwarf cavendish to me also.

My largest tall Namwa is 17׳ and 60" around at the base and it still hasn't dropped a flower. They get huge and pup like crazy.

Thanks for the feedback. I dontwant to say 100% that the smaller is a super dwarf namwah, that was what I was told when I bought it. The tall namwah though, I bought it as a small pup from a member on here. I think crazy banana, I'm not sure.

17' and 60" around is maaaaasssiiivvvee hahaha.

Really? Is that in Kentucky growing time or in Florida time? I thought Namwah were fast growers...

Your plants look awesome and well taken care of.
How is your bucket garden doing in the back yard?

This is a local observation in the area.

Expect your plant to flower in 3-5 grow cycles in our zone and that might be pushing it. This goes for all banana plants in our zone in my opinion.

And it does not matter which plant you have.

1 cycle is a year+-

I could get some ribbing for those statements.....But send me a plant and I will grow it just like any member will.

You will usually get a flower in July -August-September.....the hottest average prolonged ground temperature of your soil.

Keep in mind our grow window is less than 210-+ days frost to frost.

Bringing the plant in for the winter usually will break the cycle.......and set you back.

OF course all changes if you have a greenhouse.

Ways to speed up possible flower or pups..... use a darker mulch...WITH CAUTION.

I see that your Alba type hosta are not burnt but have flowered and will set seed.....tells me your sun is balanced.

I say this regarding the statement you made that it will likely flower in July- Sept... allowing 3 months minimum to ripen... is after frost most years.
Does that 3-5 years go for very short cycle bananas such as VC?

YES....as well as Patupi which is being said to flower and fruit in 120 days....LOL

I have tested both .........NADA

VC will stop growing when the temps average in the 70'S
Patupi almost the same.....

Send me a plant.....I will grow it for you!!!

And Wormfarmer......I will be in the hood soon ....can I look you up this fall for a tour of the garden.

Thanks Susan. Even if they don't flower, my wife and I really love the plants and the view from the porch while having tea.

I planted 4 VC as 2'-3' pups late March this year. 2 flowered late July. Other 2 flowered now in August. They are plumping very fast hopefully they make the 60 day ripening time. Just my experience. I'm zone 8b. Last year my VC went dormant in the 50s. Died to the corm at 30f or above. 30f is the lowest it got last winter.

Your stuff that you post looks awesome.
That is awesome for your zone .....but you are about 80+ days ahead of our zone.

VC plumping time....who told you that...... they need more time to plump than you think....or was sold'''''

Vc hate cooler temps as you said....I lost some as well.
They stop growing as soon as the sun sets..

Great looking plants. Yep, the tall Namwah came out of my yard. I have 4 tall Namwah bunches hanging right now, but I need my binoculars to see them high up. Well, just kidding but the p-stems are AT LEAST 12' to 15' tall at fruiting. Way to go.

I agree with the comments about the tall Namwah -- it has quite a ways to go.

The other one looks like a properly identified Super Dwarf Cavendish. They can fruit at the height yours is, but you'll just have to wait and see!
