Damn. I can't wait til I'll grow California Girls as well.

It's doing very well for this variety. Both mine were slow to start and had rather thin leaves at first. Now they are growing like "real bananas". Of course it was cool here , I assume you have very warmer weather than here. It's 97 right now........aaaaah first day of summer........on August 10th.

Joy Re: California Cold

Ok...I pieced together my personal portfolio on the initial growth of our Cali Cold hardy.

Each are in days - roughly 24 hour periods.

Initial Potting: cut evenly/no growth

Day 1:Day2:
Day 3:Day 4:

Soil mixture was 1/4 MG potting soil, 1/4 cirus/palm soil. 1/4 compost, 1/4 peat moss.

The compost I put together must be potent...the bananas I have potted up with it are doing extremely well!

Will keep Y'all posted!! THANKS for the comments!!! ~Cheryl

Hi All!!

Well, King Cali went through his share of making me worry...

Mush & brown & rot...

But not for a while.
Here he is today:

He has another leaf rolled up in the middle most leaf's petiole canal! ~Cheryl
