Intersting article I read today about the possibility of commercial bananas in Georgia.

Can Georgia develop viable banana industry?

Maybe I am stupid, but why would you want to do commercial bananas in zone 8? I would think Southern Cali, Southern TX and Southern Florida would be the best places to grow commercially.

My thoughts exactly, I suppose with the right variety you may be able to get a crop in nine months, but you are going to be froze out every winter. Personally, I think Southern Florida is borderline because our average lows in January and February are in the 50s.

Yes you are right. And it does matter what is growing too. If it's going to be cavendish, I think you can pretty much forget about it anywhere in the lower 48 states as you noted. But, GA?
