I also drag all of my potted plants in at least 3-4 times a year. that's about as extreme as I have gotten, but I am thinking of getting strung lights and using a frost protection wrap this year.

I put up shade cloth/curtains because the sun kept scorching the leaves. I trim the leaves down because my goal is to keep the plants from freezing and injury, not to keep them actively growing (it's too difficult to control the temperature without driving up my power bill...yes, the greenhouse is insulated). I have discovered that the plants--bananas, pineapples, citrus, and avocado--can handle short periods of 34 degrees (no more than a couple hours). No need to heat the greenhouse to 50F and 60F degrees all the time.

Said "Welcome to Bananas" 236 Times | Re: Addicted? I'm at work each weekday by 6AM so I wake up just 10mins earlier than usual so I can checkup/water plants. I know this is the best time to make sure they start the day out unfolding nicely. Not really cold outdoors yet, but pretty dark, so I'm glad I have lights. But yeah, some of you may have noticed this photo. Too Extreme? Nah, not even a little. |
