Re: i just killed my musa basjoos i know i did!!! :(
I did the same thing to a SDC last year. The guy at the nursery said to mix dish soap really strong and spray on the leaves for mites. So I did. Plus I had it in the sun. All the leaves died. But it came back strong as ever. I even pulled off 3 pups later in the year and gave them away. Give em some time and I bet they come right back like mine.

Yeah, bananas are hard to kill. Place them in a warm, sunny room, and I bet they'll be fine. Don't give up until the banana ladyfinger sings!!

Re: i just killed my musa basjoos i know i did!!! :(
Don't give up! I mix a lot of dishsoap in mine too. I sprayed mine & got a lot in the center w/ new leaf coming out. New leaf is now thin, light green & brown. I guess the soap water just laid in there.
Last summer I sprayed a new small apple tree infested w/ aphids with a strong soap & very hot water mix. All the leaves turned brown & died. I too thought it was a goner but it grew nice green leaves back & was fine.

Re: i just killed my musa basjoos i know i did!!! :(
Don't beat your self up over it. They are very hardy and usually come back. So far this year 3 of my Bajsoo died down to the corm and both of my Dwarf Cavendish...I'm batting about 50% on keeping them alive this winter. all mine that inside lived, and the ones I dug up and put in the crawl-like space are ok. Just givem love and warmth and they should come back.

Re: i just killed my musa basjoos i know i did!!! :(
Definately don't beat yourself up. They'll probably make it. If your going to make your own soap mix make sure it's a non deturgent soap. I just buy it so I don't have to worry. Show me any gardener who hasn't killed a few plants and I'll show you one with not much experience. Let us know how they do.

What will you do once you plant them outdoors and they are at the mercy of the elements? LOL

For future reference, a few drops of dish liquid in a quart of water should be sufficent. Best of luck with your basjoo, they're fast growers and should recover quickly. Cheers, Barrie. |

Re: i just killed my musa basjoos i know i did!!! :(
Well Rob, I dont know what is sarcasm in Rhode Island but I was serious when I said you'll check them twice a day. I often check my bananas when I get home and then again later just looking for new growth or pest or even hopefully catch sight of a flag leaf. I'm sorry if you took offense to that and I will make sure I wont reply to any of your questions as not to offend you in the future. |
