Cold Hardy Bananas spotted at Home Depot

Cold Hardy Bananas spotted at Home Depot stores in Sacramento and vicinity.

Was amazed to find big sized plants of Raja Puri, Mysore, Misi Luki, Goldfinger, etc.

Imagine, big sized plants in 5g container, and sold for only $19! This is a very good deal since you avoid the cursed and wicked Shipping and Handling fees altogether.

just want to add that they also have DC, and i have seen Ice Cream, and Manzano also. I picked up a Mysore a few days ago from Home depot. It's about 3 feet tall. 5 gal for 19 bucks just like Joe said. :vandelnana:

Yes, that's right. And I know that these have been offered about 3 years ago at the big box stores in Southern CA. But here in the colder north, it is the first time that I have seen Cold Hardy ones offered and with the proper varietal tags too. There used to be only two, probably (no variety name listed in the tag) the zebrina and the SDC and these will die back to the ground and sometimes never return.

I saw this & went running to HD - alas, no bananas. But I picked up a beautiful little 5gal Limequat for $19.00, something I've had trouble finding locally (go figger ... we're a citrus area but no one carried limequats when I was looking!).

TY for the tip though, I'm going to keep checking. Nanas aside, they have a Garden Club (free) you can sign up for online. Frequent coupons & discounts in email & snailmail makes it worth signing up. This trip I had coupons for $10.00 off, free gardening book, buy-1-get-1-free tropical houseplant (hanging on to that for something special later) & $5.00 off a $4.97 bottle of Roundup.

And I loves me some couponage & freebies!

Were you at the Truxel store or somewhere else?
I'm looking for some new adventures in Citrus Heights.

I spotted them at HD at the corner of Power Inn Drive and Folsom Blvd. They also have Feiojas.

Hi, I'm also new to this website, I'm curious about overwintering my banana plant.. Also bought it at Home Depot in Coeur d'alene, ID... the tag says " Hardy Banana", Bananero Resistente.. I'm assuming that Resistente means Hardy... so I have no idea what it is.. it is about 18 in and already has 2 pups.. Are these similar to Cannas? If not, how do you take or remove those new shoots from the mother plant?? thanks karen

Well, I found out it is a Mucas variety, and I live in northern Idaho, zone 5.

Every time I see someone post about cheap prices on banana plants at HD, I think of the last time I was in Lowes (2 wks ago) and saw a D. Cavendish in terrible condition priced at $39.00. I'm sure they will sell it to some poor unsuspecting gardening soul too!

:nanerwaveytrain: I have also seen some sorry plants at both lowes and HD, but on Aug. 10 2007 I went to HD to get some potting soil and walked out side to the garden center when lo and behold I thought I saw a Cavandish among the Cannas, on closer inspection I found it to be a Zebrina Rojo and then another and two Gran Nains at $2.99 each. I had to get them, and they are doing great in pots on my patio, the girl there told me as I was looking through the rest of the skid they were sitting on, their were more in the back of the center but when I checked, Alas, no mo nanners, just cannas, I have pics in my gallery of the new additions from when I potted them up, I just felt very lucky that day, and thankfully the wife felt tha same way( or maybe just sorry for me ) this is my 1st year trying to grow Bananas or citrus. Haven't got a CLUE. But with the help of everyone here on the forum we're all do'in OK. So a Great Big Thank You to everyone!:pinwheelnaner:
