Mysore is both a group within the AAB hybrids and an individual cultivar. For example, these are all cultivars in the Mysore group:

Belle
Chini Champa
Kappa Pazham
Karpuravalli
Kathali
Kluai Nom Sawan
Kunnan
Mysore
Nendran
Pisang Ceylon
Rajapuri
Safet Velchi
Walha

To make the name game more interesting, some of these are called "Mysore" in villages throughout India and the Philippines.

Its true Mysore is a subgroup, but of the list above: Chini Champa, Kunnan and Safet Velchi are Ney Poovan AB. Raja Puri and Walha (sometimes listed synonymously) are Pome AAB. Belle is a Pisang Raja AAB. Nendran is a plantain AAB.

Interesting. The data I collected came from the Musa Germplasm Information System. Is that source unreliable, out of date, or ?

Yep! Pisang Klotek. Awesome color and the best fruit I've tasted. My wife who doesn't care for bananas asked me to plant another stand of them.

Richard, the name comes likely from the city of Mysore. It is the second-largest city in the state of Karnataka, India.

Much of the data on their is not verified, its just what people submit. Depending on when you got it, it may have been mislabeled or misidentified. Also, there are usually multiple accessions with the same name that are classified different due to mistakes on the part of the collector.

Is there a reliable reference that lists cultivars by group?
