What species is this?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I've had this banana and just wanted to know what species it is. I should have taken a photo of the tree and flower, but unfortunately didn't. Hope the fruits is good enough.

It'll be nice to be able to tell people what I'm giving them instead of just a 'banana'

I'm located in Queensland Australia, so it shouldn't be too exotic. Growing bananas here is restricted due to the Banana industry, so it's most likely would be an approved species.

One of the registered nurseries here sells these: (although it mine might be something else altogether..)

Blue Java
Bluggoe
Duccasse
Goldfinger
Pisang Ceylan
Dwarf Ducasse
Lady Finger

I suspect just as much. Is it the blueish tint that defines the Ice Cream?

Do the Ice Creams have a very thin skin? I know that mine has a very thin skin.

Unfortunately in Australia, most supermarkets sells just cavendish, goldfinger and ladyfinger, so I have no way of identifying this one.

The Vietnamese grocers sells my type, but they have no idea what species it is, but it maybe the Duccasse, a species from Thailand (same region as Vietnam).

I might need to do more reading.

Compareing that to Croatian market its still 3 time more species in offer, we have only Cavendish

LOL. I pity you

Cavendish is possibly the last banana I'd buy. In our hot climate, they usually last for 3 days after riping before becoming all brown and melt to a gooey mess.

I'd say 'Blue Java'/'Ice Cream'. Looks great whatever it is! Congrats!

It is 'Ducasse'. The other common names for this variety (which you will see more often on this forum) are 'Namwah' and 'Pisang Awak'. Below are photos of the fruit of each. The plants are overall very similar, but the fruit shape and bunch shape are quite distinct from each other. 'Ducasse' tends to have cylindrical pendant bunches, whereas 'Blue Java' is normally slightly horizontal with a slight curve in the bunch, and the fingers to point away from the plant. Also the fruit shape is different as you can see, 'Blue Java' is more plump with a longer pedicel and not bottle-nosed like 'Ducasse'. Although both have waxy fruits with a bluish tint, you can see that 'Blue Java' is even more waxy with a comparably bluer and waxier unripe skin.

Thanks. That's as a comprehensive answer as I'm ever going to get.

I think the way the bunch is structured is probably more telling that what I have is Duccasse. The fruits are similarly shaped from other photos that I've googled, though the Blue Java photo you presented have a more different/pronounced shape.
