![]() the guy knows, or seems to knwo what he is talking about in regards the the other "ice cream".
Looks like blue java, but I'm not an expert on IDing. There are others on here that are, but it's a bit small. @Gabe might be able to ID it.

![]() Quote:
In Puerto Rico the Blue Java Banana is the number one banana that people ask me to remove from their yards. They usually import it from the US after reading all the hype on the internet. It's an edible banana that can grow in colder climates, it's genotype is ABB just like the 'Mafafo de Puerco' aka Pig Banana. The tropical climate in Puerto Rico allows us to grow some great tasting bananas and I would recommend looking at AA, AAA, and AAB genotypes if you're collecting dessert bananas, definitely would recommend getting the 'Guineo de Pina' from the Mysore subgroup.

![]() Yeah I've found that if you don't keep it cleaned up and thinned it grows like a weed and is unruly.

![]() People plant Blue Java because they read it tastes like vanilla but after harvesting they realize it's a low quality fruit when compared to the other cultivars available on the island, even the AAB genotype Pome subgroup which includes the 'Dwarf Brazilian' aka 'Fake Apple' is considered low quality in the West Indies. These cold hardy ABB bananas are more desirable to growers in areas that struggle with growing the AAA or AA types.

![]() Yeah the Brazilian isn't as bad as the ABB types but it's not nearly as good as the Manzano. Norman W. Simmonds an early pioneer in the study of bananas wrote about the comparison in the 1940's while working at the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture in Trinidad

![]() I really appreciate you guys knowledge,
I'm starting to collect a few banana trees and I hope to get a few more, mainly dessert bananas, a few cooking bananas and some rare(or at least worth having for me), almost everyone has where I lived but rarely they know what exactly they actually have, I will keep learning and will update in a few weeks to see if this is actually a Blue Java.
