I did a search here and Google and all of my books and couldn't come up with anything. I may be able to get my hands on a couple of pups that are called musa "black stem". The adults are about 8' tall, no flowers or fruit (in a greenhouse in Chicago). Does anyone have any clue who these are and what they may need? (Aside from banana basics). Any help would be appreciated, and I'll try to post a picture when I can. Thanks in advance!
Lisa, the newly dubbed queen of lost causes. |

Well, I don't know... The only label is 'black stem'. I will get pictures when I can, but the place I work for tends to go for foliage over fruit production since it is less likely up here. Thank you to everyone who replied.

What greenhouse in Chicago? I'm on the lookout for some new shopping places, since Geimers and oh darn, I forgot the name of the place on 176.
Always looking for different and unusual plants. I agree, probably Thai black, they are nice plants.

Gethsemane Garden Center. Great greenhouse, lots of cool plants, but right now a little light on bananas until spring. Just this one black stem (8' tall, it pupped and I hope to get the pups), and some super dwarf Cavendish in 3" pots. I will try to get a photo today.

Oh thanks, I've been there. It was quite a ways from the freeway, though, for someone passing through.

Please see my gallery for pics of the "black stem" banana. I am having trouble getting them to this board. Sorry for any inconvenience, and thank you for your time!
