Newbie in Florida
Hello all, glad to see all the banana lovers on here. I am a newbie but am anxious to learn and grow bananas in my yard. I have a busy road in the back of my fenced yard and want to grow banana's along the fence. I need the large banana trees for privacy, sound barrier, etc but most importantly for the fruit. I purchased a dwarf namwah at the local nursery and was told by the employee that the fruit is sweet and full of vitamins. I have planted it in a pot just in case I need to move it inside. Eventually I would like to plant the trees in the ground along the fence but will wait on when I can get more of them. In the meantime I see that one of my leaves in turning yellow and has spots. I would appreciate any type of advice on fertilization, growing tips, flowering etc.

Welcome to the site!
 I'm not certain what the brown/yellow is but that happened to mine when I potted it and brought it inside. But it doesn't seem to affect new leaves so I'm not very worried. If you want to be safe, you should spray the leaves with a copper-based fungicide. You should also post a photo in the Banana Plant Health Topics section. Just start a new thread there.

Welcome Michael to Bananas dot org. Your Dwarf Namwa needs to be watered more, thus the yellow leaves. One of your pictures of the leaf spots is indicative of Black Sigatoka, a disease that Dwarf Namwa is prone to. When watering bananas in Florida, water the roots not the leaves.
The FHIA cultivars are much better suited to Florida conditions especially SH-3640. Check out Going Bananas in Homestead, as they have many disease resistant cultivars available. Welcome Michael! I agree with Caloosamusa. With the sun and heat down there I'm sure it needs more water. Bananas are water hogs. As far as the Black Sigatoka, I don't know I have no experience with it, but Caloosamusa has a sharp eye!
