Default Hello from the UK

hey everyone!

I'm in the UK, just South of London and I recently picked some some sad looking banana plants at a very reduced price from my local garden centre. I grow lots of orchids so tropical isn't new to me but bananas are. I have a musa ensete Maurelli red and a dwarf Cavendish red

They have grown and then some so I have repotted one of them as it was so top heavy in its pot it kept falling over but I am not happy with the mix I have put it in as it is really heavy and stays wet too long I think? Not so bad in the nice warm weather but not good for winter so I will be asking some advice about that and overwintering here in the U.K.

Nice to meet you all

Welcome. Lots of good info here. Some Northern growers here dig up their plants over the winter months and store them bare root, and replant in the spring. In your case, I think lack of heat may be your biggest challenge. Not the cold so much.

Thanks for the welcomes! I am more inclined to keep them in pots outdoors from June-September and then bring them into the greenhouse for winter, My greenhouse is intermediate temps so it will get quite cool at night so hopefully they will be ok!
