hey everyone!I'm in the UK, just South of London and I recently picked some some sad looking banana plants at a very reduced price from my local garden centre. I grow lots of orchids so tropical isn't new to me but bananas are. I have a musa ensete Maurelli red and a dwarf Cavendish red ![]() They have grown and then some so I have repotted one of them as it was so top heavy in its pot it kept falling over but I am not happy with the mix I have put it in as it is really heavy and stays wet too long I think? Not so bad in the nice warm weather but not good for winter so I will be asking some advice about that and overwintering here in the U.K. Nice to meet you all ![]() |

Welcome. Lots of good info here. Some Northern growers here dig up their plants over the winter months and store them bare root, and replant in the spring. In your case, I think lack of heat may be your biggest challenge. Not the cold so much.

Thanks for the welcomes! I am more inclined to keep them in pots outdoors from June-September and then bring them into the greenhouse for winter, My greenhouse is intermediate temps so it will get quite cool at night so hopefully they will be ok!
