Default Hello From Louisiana

Hello!

I am brand new to the world of banana plants and after a little research I purchased a Gros Michel from a forum member. I got it in August or so of 2017, little tiny fella. Potted him then had to bring him in for the winter as we had a pretty cold winter for Louisiana. I wasnt able to safely put him in the ground until April and he is finally taking off. Didnt grow too much over the winter as I didnt use grow lights so it didnt get too big for the house. But its growing so much every day, amazing that you can see the growth happening day over day. And I have 5 sword suckers that sprung up in the last week as well! Plants for friends and family!

There are many more varieties I want to try, but I have a typical small suburbia yard and have limited space for them. I will plan it out and hope to have 3 or 4 different types in the end.

My new obsession = BANANAS!

A warm welcome here from the Wank! Nestled in Mcdonoghville between Old Gretna and Algiers Point, looking to connect to others here on the Louisiana front.

Growing Tall orinocos (thanks neighbor) and a namwah, hoping for a Blue Java soon!

HAHA! My neighbor had a yard sale 2 weeks ago, if only I had thought of that then!

I'm in Kenna brah (for the locals...) and hope to get a hold of a blue java and a namwah for starters. Several other varieties in the future as well. Ive always tinkered in gardening but seem to have developed a slight obsession with my naner plant. He gets more attention than most of the pets and family!

I will have a few pups ready in a few weeks (they are probably big enough now actually) if anyone local wants a Gros Michel pup. My friends at work are interested, but Id give fellow forum members first dibs. I've learned so much on here thanks to all the contributors.

Tell me more about this Michel Gras (a local spelling I would say). What is this big Michael like? Taste, size, etc. Can it be grown in pot, is it communist (invasive)?

EDIT: I just ate a whole bowl of Gros Michel history, fascinating. I think I may be interested at the risk of my yard being eaten by bananas.

This is my first plant ever, so I dont know what is normal, but I have 5 pups from my Big Michael. I could quickly have a plantation if I dont keep an eye on the pups! You are more than welcome to one, Im going to keep 2 for next season and have 3 to give away. I believe they are all 5 sword suckers, if that matters.
