Deep South Louisiana
Happy Holidays Everyone from Bayou Country
Been a little too cold here lately, but not yet down to freezing A lot of banana trees grow all around here, but they generally freeze every year Rarely see bunches of bananas, at least nothing close to edible, but I'm sure there are some I just started growing some this past year - planted a big Cavendish Mother bulb about 9 months ago, got up to about 12'+ in a pot & I planted it in the ground a month or so back, still looking good I also have a few others, a couple of dwarfs too, and I have them under my partially covered patio where I sometimes light my tall propane heater when it gets below about 40, they're still looking good My wife calls me a jungle gardener Things are a little thinned out right now, my patio is jungled out Really hoping to harvest bananas some day, never really thought about better tasting bananas than the normal store bought variety, wanting to try some new varieties Looking forward to the spring, but not the summer, it's killer down here in the swamps Love and Peace to every one |

Re: Deep South Louisiana
Welcome to bananas.org.
The WIKI will help you find some good varieties other than the store bought cavendish. Everyone has his or her favorites , one of my favorites is the Namwa....which should do well in your area. |

Re: Deep South Louisiana
Glad to have you here ObiaMan!
Houma is a good place. You got lots of friends close by overthere. You should have a decent climate for Orinocos and others. I'm eating my 2013 harvest now. Making Banana Bread with the excess. The Mayors Gator sleigh won't have any problem getting to your place. glad to have you hear. I like the jungle theme and the lizards too! What else you growing over there? Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Darkman in Pensacola
