A gardener from Belgium

Hello

I am living in a very humid climate 6b in center of Belgium.

I am a lover about any exotics, but especially palms, banana plants and cycads.

In the garden actually i have Chamaerops Humilis, Jubaea Chilensis, Sabal Minor var louisiana, Sabal Minor var blue, Butia Capitata, Brahea Armata, Musa Basjoo, Opuntia Humifusa, Eucalyptus Gunii, Ficus Carica and a lot on native plants and trees not exotics

i will show you some pictures of my garden to let you see a bit, but unluckily i got some problems on last winter which was -21C. Luckily all of the palms are alive, ....

My protection assemblies for Butia Capitata, Brahea Armata and Jubaea Chilensis

Dammage on my Butia capitata after the 7th january 2009 (-21°C, -5°F) it has been cutted above the sproud using a trunk cutter to avoid risk of rotten in the hole on place of the missing flush.

Yes i've just registered to palmsnorth.com and i am member of the french forum "fous de palmiers" as well but i don't know what is "cemunos"

Welcome from zone 6A in New Jersey. It's very encouraging to hear all the varieties you have there...... I wish I had that extra 5 degress in winter.... the Butia Capitata just doesn't seem to make it here. Now at least I'm encouraged to try the Brahea Armata ... if I can find one blue enough.

No i am notEzekiel or Fred.c (i ever met him) they are just posting on the same forum, on that one my name is Ruddy_yoritomo if you wanna read my posts but in french unluckily for you.
Exometeofraiture is the excellent website of Fred.C i am not alone to grow palms here, and i saw some very nice palms and exotics gardens around here.

Fred.c as already a mature garden mine still be too young.

Idon't know the forum plant_passion, but i recommand you to read gardenbreiz if you may read french. And there are posted a lot of nice pictures.

I will give you the adress of my personnal website , unluckily not up to date at all, but you can find a lot of good hints about seeds sprouds, taking of cuttings, the hints to make a japanese garden, winter protections, and i enable in download the schematics to build your eletronic thermostat yourself very simply adapted for non electronicians.

firstly on the main page click on the palms to reach the gardening section of the website it has 3 topics actually, the website untill now contains most of pictures got from other peoples but you can see mine too. I plan to adapt it soon.

yes, it has some peoples around here they improved in exotic gardens, but don't forget, all of us use elaborate protections with home made electric heating system to insure sufficient temperatures. And some of them are in the cities which are sensibly warmer than country side areas, as well as most of city gardens are protected by some walls.

aaaa... got it!
not for me. i don't live there. my parents do. and they have a lot of work without me asking them to look after my part of the garden.
i would really like to have only care free plants in my garden. something that stays there and doesn't need any protection.
i guess i will have to settle for plum trees, apple trees...
