![]() Hello,
I own 6 acres in Palmetto Florida and have decided to plant a good portion in different types of Bananas. My goal is to acquire at least 30 different edible bananas. I am not commercial. Gardening is my hobby but I put considerable time into it. I have specialized and given many workshops on Butterfly gardening. I propagate most of my own plants. I look forward to tapping into the knowledge of the members for assistance. Sal |

![]() Hello Thread,
I've been gardening for many years but am intrigued by the fact that there are over 300 edible bananas in the world. I hope to plant at least 30 types in my garden. My interest before this time was focused on butterfly gardening. I have put on presentations for many youth and school groups and thought that the kids would really be amazed by the different types of bananas when they tour the gardens. I hope to hear from you again. Sal |

![]() Awesome with putting on the presentations Sal!!
Being a home-schooling Mom of 5, the kids initially picked out the bananas as a gardening project & now, we're all addicted!!! They think it is so fun!!! They are after me to get some Dwarf Red & some Praying Hands bananas...Thousand Fingers, Burmese Blue, Pitogo...bananas are amazing plants! I told them we have to get the greenhouse up & running first, so we can overwinter them. The ones they like need a bit longer & warmer growing season. Great to hear back from you! ![]()

![]() Hello Cheryl,
I have both the praying hands and thousand fingers. I don't know how much it would cost to send them to you but all you will have to do is cover the mail cost. I'll send you a couple when Spring arrives. My direct email is sciccarello1@tampabay.rr.com. Hope to hear from you. Sal |

![]() Welcome Sal. It sounds like you have a very interesting garden and don't mind enduring a few caterpillars to enjoy the butterflies... way to go.

![]() Welcome aboard! If you need tips for small plantation practices, to keep those 30 cultivars happy, let me know - small plantations of about 10 cultivars is what I do down here in my own gardens.
Are you planning to grow any of the South American cultivars (Nino, Orinoco, etc?) |

![]() Welcome to the org! Sounds like quite the project! I hope it works out great for ya! I would really like to do such a thing myself, but living in the midwest isn't particularly conducive to banana propagation. LOL. And very cool about the butterfly gardening! Are you talking about growing PLANTS for butterflies or actually growing BUTTERFLIES? Either way, that's sweet. I used to grow all kinds of moths/butterflies when I was growing up. My favorite/specialty was by far monarchs. I would really love to eventually have a way to grow them year-round indoors if that's possible. It'd be really cool to have a greenhouse with live butterflies!
