I lost my keys last Tuesday. I called all but 2 places I'd stopped and they weren't there. I didn't need to take them; I was riding with someone else and I never lock my door. (Hey, only one person here knows where I live so I'm safe, right?) I was saved 2 more embarrassing calls when my friend found them in his trunk. (How they got there mystifies both of us.)

I didn't realize just how much of me is on that chain. The Ex tried to purge my Yankee brass knuckles; I caught him in time. My feeler gauge for my 1st car (used 69 MGB) is on it along with radiator keys bestowed on me by my now deceased rehabbing mentor ages ago. (Yes, I performed that task; the Ex couldn't be bothered.) There are other little "charms" including I believe the key to my 1st apartment along with spare keys from memorable cars. And more. A hefty handful that's impossible to lose.

But I did.

They've been located so I'm okay.

Do you carry a bunch of metal on your ring or just what you need?

I have a ring my dad used to wear and my wedding band from my first marriage on there. Reminders of two major losses in my life, I guess.

Don't even own a key chain anymore. Car has keyless entry and start button, same with house entry.
My life depends on battery power or electricity though.

No. I keep it simple. The more you have on it, the more weight you have to carry!
I think it's a girl thing. You have purses, we don't! Just try carrying that in your front pocket!
I do keep car and house keys seperate.

My keychain is a roughly 1x3 blob of aluminum that was two ski poles before they got melted in a very large fireplace one New Years Eve in 1982. I raked the ashes back in the morning, took out the blob, drilled a hole in it with my brand new Swiss Army knife, and it's been my keychain ever since I was 14 years old. Had it for about 34 years now. It is uniquely me.

However, I keep my house, cabin and handcuff keys on that chain, my car keys on another, and my motorcycle keys on yet another. That way, if I do somehow manage to lose one, the others are still someplace else. Never keep all your eggs in one basket, all of your warships in one harbor, or all of your keys on one chain.
