Hey guys,

I just moved to Florida from Vegas and on the property that I run (RV PARK) I have a couple of small banana trees. I was told that there was a older tree there but it was not looking good and was cut down. These new "sprouts?" look good but I was wounding a couple things. One how can you tell what kind of tree it is and the other is someone told me that because these sprouts were not grafted that they will not bear fruit. I am completely clueless on this topic so I was hopeing someone might give me a little insite to these questions. Thanks Todd

:bananas_b Welcome to the forum, If you could post a picture of the pups ( sprouts ) it would be very helpful in Id'ing the type of Bananas you have there. I'm relatively new to growing bananas myself, but there are a ton of friendly, helpful and knowledgable people here. Best Wishes, Bill :nanadrink:

Hello and welcome Todd,

If you have a picture maybe it is possible to identify them. Now, you
can't graft a banana plant as far as I know so if it is an edible one sooner or
later it will bear edible(seedless) fruit.

On one, very difficult to tell what variety of banana it is until it blooms. Though it would help if you have a couple of pictures of them. Some of the folks here may recognize them.

On the second, there is no such thing as a "grafted banana". Bananas are herbaceous plants and not trees. They are more like a strawberry than an oak. The formation of fruits will depend on their growing conditions. In your neck of the woods, it should be easy because the weather is already in your favor. Just make sure that your plants have ample drainage and regular watering/fertilizing.

Keep reading on this site and you'll learn quite a bit from it.

Welcome to the forum.
