Its growing and still being a bit weird. But it has the LONGEST cigar curls when it puts out a new leaf. Crazy awesome. Still loving my Ox.

Nice pup - did you have to ship it by :0519:freight - surely they don't have priority boxes that large? I'm interested cause I might need to ship a larger pup sometimes. :0519:

Two and a half months... No noticeable growth and no real regression... I've had to bring her in for the winter... Not sure what will happen next...

should have pushed a cigar by now - what is the weather like? has it been warm?
i would probably take a look at the roots but I will leave that advice to those that pot their nanas. :drum::drum:

When I received my BJ from I think Merc3 sorry can't remember, but what I did was cut the pup down to the corm & potted her up, It grew pretty fast , I think she's a winner !

If I remember it right, this pup had a huge corm and root mass. Those Blue Java pups grow really fast in the ground and I bet you, it does not like the small pot.
I rarely plant in pots, but if so, it takes a while for the pup to take off. Where did you keep the pot, how were the temperature, light and water conditions? Check your soil for signs of overwatering.

Hey Ed: your Blue Java came from California ;)

The pot was on the patio with other Bananas... Until recently we had good banana weather... Warm temps, lots of sun...

The Gros Michel, DCs, Black Thai, and others are all thriving... I am not too worried about it... It will awaken soon...

In my experience it should roughly take a new potted banana,4 to 6 weeks before a new roller should start pushing out depending on conditions, if not its probably putting energy into a new pup, or its unlikely to make it, otherwise corm rot.

This one is at 10 weeks now... I don't think that it is rotting or dead... The pseudostem is still firm... Almost as firm as it was the day it arrived...

This makes me think that the corm and the roots are still doing their thing... I was just hoping for at least one new leaf before I brought her inside for the winter...

I chopped about 4 inches of the top after my post a few hours ago... I found a new cigar there... I am still very hopeful...

good luck :) I read once the best thing to do if you see no changes is waiting. I got that with my SDC.. I cut the pup myself at my brothers.. it took nearly a month till it took off..

So good luck :)

Ed & TJ, both gave you excellent advice.

10 weeks...

I wait about 10 days to check for root growth, this gives me the opportunity to be proactive.

Tilt the pot and move some of the soil away using a small brush.

Banana Plants are so amazing... Since my last post, the p-stem has been slowly deteriorating, as were my hopes... As you can see in the picture, it has browned and shriveled quite a bit in the past 2 1/2 months... Finally, almost overnight, this little fighter has pushed out a new leaf...

Two new leaves in less than two weeks in the middle of winter? Good job, now you have it growing.
