Hi people!
I just found this forum after looking for instructions on how to germinate bananas. I live in NE Scotland so growing these beauties will be a challenge but one that I think I can have some success with. I already grow orchids here so bananas may not be too difficult - famous last words! I'm a keen amateur gardener so maybe that will help me a tad in getting these, seemingly, notorious seeds to grow.

Bananas aren't that hard to grow, so I've learned. I have four plants, and they love it here in California. I bet that you could get one to fruit where you live.

Will the short winter days be an issue in Scotland? Besides it being bertie-auld :0521:

Welcome! Good luck with the germination. I live far north like you, and with not-so-banana-friendly climate as well, but I'll admit, I don't yet have the bravery to try with germinating seeds.

I forget the germination rate that I had but it was at least 50% and they're growing well - although it's me who weakens during these long dark winter nights!

Yep, first dusting of snow today - hope it's the last; I should have stayed in Tahiti for the winter lol.
