Default My Ae Ae Banana

because everyone seems to be so interested in Ae Ae's, I thought I would show the history of mine.
I got a very good sized pup from a very good gardening friend and planted it into the greenhouse (pic 1). It grew to an ultimate OVERALL height of over 20 feet. The leaves were 6-7 ft long. The crown of the plant was hitting the greenhouse ceiling (it was planted on the slope where the ceiling height was about 14 ft). Leaves were burning where they hit the ***extremely HOT*** Lexan in summer (attic temps in the greenhouse can be 110F), and breaking against the roof. It was visually hard to get a good look at the beautiful leaves. (Pic 2)

So, in very early fall this year, I dug it up and planted it out into the yard. Ihad to take the trunk down to about a 7 ft height and ax the leaves. The plant re-established very quickly, and put out a couple new leaves. Now its winter, and it has one good leaf and getting ready to shoot another. This photo was taken a couple weeks ago when I wrapped the trunk in preparation for a hard freeze that didn't materialize. I fully expect my plant to do well here in the yard with a little winter protection. ALmost ALL of my banana plants lose their leaves in the winter to frost, and I expect Ae Ae will be no different, but as long as the trunk is okay I expect success. (pic 3)
