Default Yucca rostrata in zone 6

Just got my yucca rostrata in the mail and wanted to see if anyone had experience with these in or around zone 6. I hear it takes a couple years before they will survive unprotected in my zone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just want to keep this guy alive.

thanks-DAN
