And do some background checking on Ty Ty - they had a Daves Garden Watchdog entry that was from what I remember like 99% negative until Ty Ty sent some lawyers after them and had all references to them removed (they shoulda fought it - Dave woulda won, imho). Fortunately, Amazon apparently has better lawyers - plenty of reviews here to read:

Amazon.com: TyTy Nursery: Website Details

Not to mention BBB:
Columbus, GA: Check Out a Business or Charity

And if you do a Google on them you'll find tons of negative reviews about them. So in that respect, ANYTHING that they claim is bogus in my honest opinion. So I've long since written off Texas Star as an option.

Wow Mike!
That was fast. Thank you for your quick response. I completely understand your concern about TTN. I am all too familiar with the blog on the internet. I also know that they have several aliases to mask their company from their reputation. That is why I was wondering if there were any sources in Witchita Falls for the elusive TX Star, where it is alleged to be from.

Having said that, I must tell you that I personally have ordered plants from them in the early 90s. And I have to admit that I had a satisfactory transaction with them. And the only reason that I did not order the TX Star then, was the price was pretty steep. The Red Abyssinian bananas I got from them lasted me five winters thru snow and sleet and hail. The fifth year we got incessant rain for 3 months coupled with temps in the high 30s and low 40s. In the following early spring, I noticed one of them was leaning and when I righted it, it just popped out of the soil, and exposed a black mush for a corm. When these 2 arrived from TTN, my wife left them in the trunk of the car, and forgot to tell me until 3 weeks later wherein we had temperatures in the low teens. But after unpacking them, I was pleasantly surprised that they were still red/green, not black.

After the demise of the Red Abyssinians, I tried to reorder from them but they declined the order, citing strict WA state laws. But now, their ad on the net does not have WA state as one of the states they cannot ship to.

Re: TX Star, I mentioned that I'd seen side by side comparison of it and the CA Gold and D. Orinoco. I do not believe that they were from TTN. It was from another collector. He had the three of them side by side next to a swimming pool. I remember that the mat of the TX Star was wider and the plant itself was slightly taller than the CA Gold and the D. Orinoco. The article noted that the experience occasional snow, frequent frosts and hail. The fruits of the three plants look very much alike. I did not see any photos of the blooms. I wish that I can find that website again.

Anyway, my curiosity is still peaked, though I am apprehensive about getting one from TTN. Hence, my question to you in my earlier post for an alternate source.

Thanks again.
