Default Species Identification Process

Hi All:

I purchased a variety of banana plants at a local exotic plant show. There should have been 1 Sweetheart, 2 Ice Cream, and 2 Dwarf Namwa. The plants might have been labeled correctly or maybe not, I am just happy that I have some blooming plants now.

Here is my identification question, what are the traits to look at in the various plants? Both of the Ice Cream plants are blooming; however one is 9 feet tall and the other is 6 1/2 feet tall. One is much larger around the bottom, one bloom is slender and the other is fatter. Do any of these differences indicate a different variety?

When I try to ID a plant, what attributes should look at? Is there a good reference for determining banana species?

Below are some photos of my first bloom!
