Default Re: What type of banana do I have?

Looking at your Facebook photo, I would think that they are Orinoco. Have you peeled any of them yet? If they are Orinoco, they should be a good cooking banana. One Filipino member in CA has reported that his Orinoco tastes similar to Saba, a popular cooking banana in the Philippines. Just like the Orinoco, Saba is a true banana and not a plantain. While green, the Saba pulp is sliced thinly and fried. They can be salted and eaten like crackers, or covered with caramel for sweet snack. When semi-ripe, they are boiled and eaten out of hand, or kept in brown sugar syrup for later consumption with shaved ice and evaporated milk. I would suppose that the Orinoco may be used the same way. I am curious to find out if your banana is seedless, and if so, I think that it is indeed an Orinoco. By the way, the Saba can be eaten out of hand when the peel is almost black or black. By then it is sweet and more digestible. Eating it when it is just ripe, although tartly-sweet, most people find it hard to digest, which is why they are usually cooked. Let us know.

Thank you.
