Re: musa velutina - first time!
all i can say is that banana seeds wil not germinate guaranteed, it can take from a month to a year or longer, i got experience with alot of palms and eucalyptus species + other exotics, banana seeds are still the hardest sometimes nothing wil germinate even the viable seeds and sometimes they wil geminate by the hundreds.
all i know is that velutina needs a 3 day soak on( 30 C )and a temperature regime
about 12 hours 35 C' and 10 hours 25 is the most succesfull.
i also heared that a moist fluctation is also succesfull.
the only advice i can give is that you must buy alot of seeds to get a good germination % buy 100 or more seeds and if you got a aquarium put the seeds in there under bright light at a warm temp.
if you get sick of it and they haven't germinated after a few months or a year or so don't discard them , i heared alot of stories that hundreds of seeds germinated after 2 years. just neglect them for a while and buy other seeds like palm seeds that wil germinate after a short time it wil keep the fun of growing plant out of seeds.
there are no seeds that wil germinate after two weeks , it's just pure luck if that happen. Almost everyone says ensete ventricosum is the easiest and fastest species to germinate, wel i have them almost for 6 months now stored at a moist spot at 32 C'. the only way you wil have succes is to have fresh seeds.
i buyed 1000 trachycarpus fortunei seeds ( chusan palm) at a dealer and all looked fresh but after i opened the seeds they look old, well it was two years ago and none germinated at 22 C' in two years . this year i got 10 fresh seeds from a friend and they germinated in 10 days.
if you pay alot attention to banana seeds it is a waste of time just put em in a good spot and moist em a few times.
if you buy seeds from a species look at the native habitat of that species and simulate it by means of moisture and temperature
