1) Genetically they are in the AAA- group, so very cold sensitive which keeps me from trying as night temperatures are already down to the low 40s where I live.
2) Gran Nain is a commercial variety, Gros Michel used to be a "supermarket" banana. I am sure that they would taste slightly better if homegrown, but I prefer to grow varieties which cannot be found in So Cal supermarkets.
