1) Genetically they are in the AAA- group, so very cold sensitive which keeps me from trying as night temperatures are already down to the low 40s where I live.
2) Gran Nain is a commercial variety, Gros Michel used to be a "supermarket" banana. I am sure that they would taste slightly better if homegrown, but I prefer to grow varieties which cannot be found in So Cal supermarkets. |

I think Gros Michel is more cold sensitive than Gran Nain, and I know Gran Nain hates our winters but can survive.

If it survives has it fruited outside?....
Ordered cali gold, williams, and gran nain from Greenearth. Cali gold was something else, dwarf red I am told by members. Williams may fruit in the future if its a williams, but if my gran nain fruits then maybe it was something else too. Eddie |

Pitangadiego has fruited Cocos (dwarf Gros Michel) and some Cavendishes outdoors in San Diego. Not sure if Grand Nain was one of the Cavendishes, but I think so.
Venturabananas has tasted some of the fruit from that Cocos mat, and iirc he said he "wouldn't even describe it as good." The environmental conditions probably bear much of the blame for the disappointing fruit, since GM's are especially sensitive to cold weather.
