You can Analyze this problem to death, but I just wrote it off as a quirk. I grew about fifty plants this past summer, some in pots and some in the ground. I had this same problem on two plants. I thought it was maybe because they just happened to be in pots. I thought they might be root bound, but I see yours is in the ground.
The plants looked healthy and they each received the same attention and the same fertilizer as all the others, but the leaves were growing toward the ground and wouldn't unfurl.
There is a moth that lays its eggs on cannas and makes a web on the leaves that keep them from unfurling, but I checked and there was no web on the bananas.
Same amount of water, sun, fertilizer and two out of about 50 have a problem. Maybe genetics?
