Redwoods are usually pretty good. This particular tree had a forked (double) top and last winter the larger portion of the top blew off to the north when we had a strong southeast wind. I had hoped the remaining top would take over and get stronger but discovered the trunk was damaged from when the top split off. Naturally, the top was more prone to being split off from a north wind. I used my pruning tower to cut off a clean top at about 20' high and hope for a new top to take over. fortunately, none of the remaining trees next to my pole barn have a forked top. Fingers crossed. I specifically built my barn next to this row of redwood trees as they will serve as a natural wall for my barn. Building a new structure with walls in the 100 year flood plain is riddled with restrictions but a pole barn without walls doesn't even require a permit. I've got a 40' cargo container next to the pole barn on the eastern side and will eventually get another on the south side, leaving only the west exposed until I put up a tall trellis for some Passiflora. I've got this planned pretty good.
