I'm aching pretty good, putting steel roofing on my new barn/shed at 12' to 16' above ground level. I got about 432 square feet covered today, about 1,584 to go! Will go faster now that I've got the layout marked and little tricks figured out. Each panel weighs about 75 pounds so it takes a pretty good amount of work to get it lifted in place.

Wow Harvey, that's some seriously hard work! Let's see a picture when you have time. At least you picked some cool weather to do it!

I did a pretty good job as a contortionist climbing above and under trusses. I'm not used to using many of those muscles! I planned to take a photo today but forgot.

I had planned to finish it about a month ago but it's pretty good I didn't. I've got about 100 redwood trees along about 800 feet of perimeter of my farm and about 15' of the top of one of them broke off in a strong north wind about two weeks ago and landed on the trusses of my barn. No damage (other than the tree) but several panels my steel roofing would have been bent up pretty good if they were already in place.

Redwoods are usually pretty good. This particular tree had a forked (double) top and last winter the larger portion of the top blew off to the north when we had a strong southeast wind. I had hoped the remaining top would take over and get stronger but discovered the trunk was damaged from when the top split off. Naturally, the top was more prone to being split off from a north wind. I used my pruning tower to cut off a clean top at about 20' high and hope for a new top to take over. fortunately, none of the remaining trees next to my pole barn have a forked top. Fingers crossed. I specifically built my barn next to this row of redwood trees as they will serve as a natural wall for my barn. Building a new structure with walls in the 100 year flood plain is riddled with restrictions but a pole barn without walls doesn't even require a permit. I've got a 40' cargo container next to the pole barn on the eastern side and will eventually get another on the south side, leaving only the west exposed until I put up a tall trellis for some Passiflora. I've got this planned pretty good.

Had pretty good weather and was rested up by taking one day off from working on my pole barn. My helper and I finished putting all of the rest of the roof on today except for pieces that need to be cut about one foot wide on the ends (both will be cut from one 3' x 17'3" panel). I'm thinking about trying a cheapo double-cut saw from Harbor Freight for that job as those long cuts with tin snips will wear me out.

Photo from end of day on 11/23/2011:

The barn is 32' x 51' and there's 11' of clearance below the beams which rest in saddle brackets on 6" steel pipe (former PG&E natural gas pipeline, removed from my dad's fields over 40 years ago).

Most of the stuff HF sells is pretty crappy but often "good enough". I'm still shopping around but might still give theirs a try. I wonder if it would do pretty good with some better quality blades. My gable ends also need a lot of cutting. Any other alternative ideas?

I had thought of that and, yes, I've got 3 air compressors (220v, big PTO driven, and smaller Honda gas driven), but cutting the gable tops will require cutting through lots of ridges that stand one inch tall and it's pretty hard to cut a straight line when going over ridges at an angle.

I found some pretty good advice here:
Cutting Steel Roofing

A nibble is a good option but one poster mentioned that for straight cuts there's a sheet metal blade for circular saws that works great.

If you can not clean every square inch under what your cutting do not use a nibbler. They make little ultra sharp finger nail shaped cuttings that stick in your shoes or animals feet.
