Default Re: identificar plataneras (id banana tree)

Hi Erlend

North-mediterranean coast are in the limit of the edible banana cultivation area (of course non commercial กก) but you can find some few.
I live 20 Km from the coast, and until now, all the edible varieties I tried died during a winter.
I take this picture today in Barcelona city and you can see a bunch of bananas of one of the edible unknown "spanish" cultivars, and a flower of M. basjoo with a tiny banana bunch.

This is the single basjoo flower in this area (and probably in all Barcelona city) surrounded by some M. “paradisiaca” flowers.

Because the male and female flower of a bunch open at different time, there is a possibility to have a hybrid of both.

That means a possible "new edible cold-hardy" variety

I will keep all of you informed
