Default My thread, your thread, their thread?

There has been a feeling expressed by some here that when a person starts a thread, they "own" it and govern who can post what. Now I understand if people object to a thread getting off-topic, but insisting upon a thread being "mine" ? I can't see how anyone owns a thread anymore than a conversation between people on the street.

For example, I started a thread called "Dragon Fruit update" initially about progress over at my place. People added to it with their updates and questions, and pretty soon it became a useful source of information. Great! The more of that, the better.

How do you all feel about this?
