I have about 5 different types of hedychiums and they all bloomed for me this year. Last couple of years my Dr. Moy did not bloom, but it joined in this year!!! They overwinter for me nicely with just my usual 3-4" of mulch. Also have several different types of curcumas and they overwinter well for me also... Not sure what type you have, but you may want try to leave a piece or two out to try with heavy mulch...
