I still have my old Boston Acoustic and AR's in the basement, along with my Akai open reel. Digital has made things convenient, but the sound hasn't improved IMHO.

Some of my favs...YouTube - Pat Benatar - Love Is A Battlefield

YouTube - Hotel California Live - Eagles

YouTube - Sonny Rollins Trio - St. Thomas 1959

Listening, Party For Two: 'Sing, Sing, Sing' - A Blog Supreme : NPR (my comments-turn up the volume to really get the swinging nature of this piece, especially starting around 5:32. Ziggy Ellman and Harry James really let go on the trumpet, what can one say about Goodman that hasn't already been said, and Gene Krupa on drums...it will never get any better than this! from the famous 1938 Carnegie Hall concert)

Guess I should have mentioned that the are not just Technics speakers, they are Linear Phase monsters with steel handles to move them! I traded a bitchin car for them which reminds me of another classic post punk song! :ha:

Bitchin' Camaro! The real fun starts at 2:10 :)

I agree, but the popping and skipping I won't soon miss! Also a lot of the quality of sound was determined by the stylus. That is one place money was well spent!

I never had reel to reel, but my boss at the strereo store did in his sound proof music room.

I'll put my reel-to-reel with some master tapes I have up against any digital of today. Yeah, the noise suppression is a modern delight, but the fullness and sense of warmth is gone. Mind you, I listen to CDs and DVDs today; the big old Akai just takes up too much room and time!

Re: What Are You Listening To?

Huge Tom Waits fan here, too! Note to self, must find that album again... I only have the one cut off it and it seems that I am sadly lacking.... iTunes, here I come!

Teh YouTubes is not currently working for me, otherwise I'd be posting the video for 'Singapore' or 'Rain Dogs' to complement 'Starving in the Belly of a Whale...'

And also Los Fabulosos Caddilacs, 'Mal Bicho'

Tom Waits fan here too! The Black Rider cd is in my truck for the entire hunting season........brings me luck.

Re: What Are You Listening To?

It's Rain Dogs and Threepenny Opera, for me. Rain Dogs has a place of honour in the cd player in my painting studio. Also, on the other end of the whole Tom Waits spectrum, Nighthawks at the Diner is a guilty, guilty pleasure. Especially the Emotional Weather Report.

Re: What Are You Listening To?

Hahahahhaha! It's working!

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs - Mal Bicho
