What happened to my Bookmarks??
All of a sudden this last week, none of my bookmarks show when I click on it on my Yahoo homepage. All it shows is:
add bookmark edit bookmarks import bookmarks ...and they are not highlighted so I can't even click on those. I had a loooong list since late '02 -- 100's, and they are gone!!! I used it three times just over week ago & all was fine. How can they just disappear? Anyone know what coulda happened? There's stuff there I could never find again. This is as bad or worse than losing a cell phone or phone book. Help!:( |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Is this your computer or the one at Mike's place? Very strange!
|
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
It's MY peice of junk LOL. Mike's works just fine, but there's only few bookmarks on it. I s'pose I can get them over to my puter somehow. This is very strange. Maybe my puter wiz friend Martin will see this :)

Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
I donot see how they would just be gone. The only way I think is if someone deleated them off your computer. Thats very strange that they would just be gone. I never heard of that before.
Good luck:banana-computer: |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Me neither, and I'm the only one here.
|
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
I don't see how that can happen unless you had magical Lightning hit and it didn't effect anything else... :^)

Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Are these stored in your Yahoo account or on your computer via the browser? Which browser are you using (Internet Explorer, Firefox etc)?

I do all my bookmarks through the browser and they remain on there after updates each time...I've lost them a couple times before (1 - when my hard drive crashed and 2 - when I left for college and my mother decided I was 'GONE' and she was taking over the computer bookmarks for her 3-4 bookmarks (seriously) and deleted probably 30 of mine). Losing bookmarks is definitely a very sad day, so I feel ya on that! |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
are you under the same user on the computer? will that effect you settings?

yahoo keeps telling me to update to the "all new yahoo" (diff homepage I guess) but I always click on "later". Maybe they are punishing me LOL. Wants me to get rid of my current one & download/update new one. I hate to download anything lately cuz my memory is low & puter slow. I'm on Mike's puter now & I have some bookmarks here including my old aol bookmarks w/ hundreds alone there. Can't remember how I got them here, but even that doesn't show on my puter. (his puter is IE). Maybe if I update to the "all new yahoo" they'll come back (?):( This is just so weird. |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Sandy, I've had similar problems with the "new yahoo" aka the "crappy/difficult/ihateit yahoo homepage" etc. When they decided to permanently eliminate their old page, I was going to permanently eliminate them even though they've been my homepage for over 10years! But since I have six old established email accts with them, it's been difficult to start all over again with another new homepage. They didn't even blink when I wrote them numerous emails saying that they were "communists" for not allowing people to continue to have and use the older simpler page! ;-)

Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Wow, yahoo has its own browser?? Thought it was just the search engine/email. I know that I have a toolbar on my browser with some yahoo features but was ignorant to the fact that they had an entire browser.
My best advice is to use this opportunity to ditch that browser and switch to Mozilla Firefox. This is the best browser I've seen out there for compatibility with websites/programs/toolbars and it has a lot of neat user-friendly features that help you surf the internet fast and more effectively. And trust me, in general operation, MF is significantly faster than IE for some reason. Plus it has superior defense against pop-ups. All around, probably a lot better than what you're using and it's free, so what do you have to lose? You can still have a yahoo toolbar even (which lets you know instantly when you have email and allows you to click a button on the toolbar to be redirected to your inbox), but I would suggest using the bookmark area the browser provides rather than the ones the Yahoo toolbar has. |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
I tried downloading Firefox couple years ago & a pop up said I don't I don't have enough space for it. I know, I know...get a new puter. I can't afford one. I will try the master account, which is me at att.net & see what happens there...haven't been there in a few years. Thanks anyway. Maybe somehow it'll just reappear.

Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Sorry didn't see this until now...
Its not you Patty its yahoo... You need to get rid of all the programs on your computer that you don't use. Then get an external drive the smaller ones are very inexpensive compared to getting a new computer and all your pictures, music, video's need to be stored on that and deleted from your computer to free up hard drive space. Then make the switch to firefox. There is a great add on called Xmarks and its saves all your bookmarks online and you can sync it with different computers as well... I would start a gmail account and slowly make the transition to their email/homepage system as one of these years down the road there won't be a yahoo anymore. |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Thanks Martin, I'll have to print out what you said & show it to a big box puter store like Best Buy (I hate that place) cuz I don't understand 'external drive' & 'Xmarks' LOL. Should I take the tower in w/ me? I did remove several programs w/ that 'uninstaller' you showed me earlier. Thanks again :)

Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Yeah, that's what I was thinking...clear out the programs you don't use (control panel>>add/remove programs) and delete any temp files you can find, .exe files for things you already have installed, etc. Shouldn't take much space for firefox.
BTW, the newest version of firefox (3.6) is awesome! You can choose from 3,000 different fancy designs to make it look purdy. Check mine out...looks like a forest up in huuur! :ha: Plus firefox has had the tabs forever....and more recently has the capability of drag/drop reordering of them in the list. Very helpful. And yeah...still have my yahoo toolbar too! |
I can walk you through setting up your xmarks you don't get it from best buy it something you can add to firefox.... you can call me if you need to.
You need to get something like this... Western Digital - My Passport Essential 250GB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black - WDBAAA2500ABK-NESN get whatever one they have in the store that is cheapest. Quote:

Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
That's what I have Greg...ATT Yahoo ("powered by yahoo"). I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow on the way home...maybe have those puter Geeks give me a clue of what I'm buying & then I'm afraid I'll be totally dependant on Martin LOL. I will read the directions first & try to figure things (oh Lordy)

Martin knows what he's doing --- I don't LOL.
Goin to Best Buy today. I'm back home on my puter now. I stopped at Best Buy & showed the guy what I needed to buy (wrote it down from link Martin gave) and they didn't have it. The guy said what I need is more memory but I didn't have all the details of my puter (model #, ram etc), so I left empty handed. I started my puter up & clicked on my yahoo browser & same pop up (for many months now) said to update yahoo browser ... 'update now' or 'remind me later', so this time I clicked on 'Now'. It said: "AT&T Yahoo Browser will no longer be updated or supported. Your system will still have I.E. browser. We recommend you follow the steps below to uninstall AT&T Yahoo Browser then, Access Internet via IE." Then it said to update IE or download Firefox or Safari. I had started to download Firefox 2-3 yrs ago but it wouldn't finish installing. I then used Revo uninstaller - from Martin, to uninstall Yahoo browser & all its components. I GOT FIREFOX NOW!!! No frickin ads to wait for!!! Now I don't know how to get to my emails as there is no icon for it LOL, but I'll figure it out. How do I turn off this stupid spell check thing? "frickin" & LOL is underlined in red!! Still don't have my bookmarks :(. Greg, don't you get that pop up to update your yahoo browser? How come Yahoo didn't tell us about not being updated or supported any longer? |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Patty
Very seldom do I get that pop up. I never really have no trouble with mine. I just recently got a new computer about a year ago. The only reason I did get a new computer was its one of those new HP its real small.I really like it allot. My old one was fine it was just big. The tower. Its only like 4 years old now. I only used it 3 years. The only reason why I would like to switch to the firefox is people are saying its so good I donot know; I would like to try it if its so great; I donot want to miss out on any thing good LOL Well looks like your doing ok so far hang in there Good luck |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
I found my email - it looks like my old yahoo browser, and with all the ads, but the top is IE. I think Mike is hinting to buy me a new puter - WOOHOO! Any opinions (Martin?) what kind to get? I don't do anything fancy so I don't need something expensive. Lap top? I just saw some smaller ones for $799.00 at BB. Can I use my DSL on a lap top? Can I get pics on it from camera? can I print off of it?
|
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Patty
You can use your DSL on your laptop I have a laptop I have it were I can use it wireless to my DSL. I found my new desktop at WalMart they were cheaper and it was on sale too. I got a very good deal on it. Check around. I have three computers .Plus my one at work. Good luck |
Thanks Greg, I forgot about Wallyworld. I really hate Best Buy - always trying to sell - with pressure! - maintenance insurance! Last thing I bought from them, I told the guy "if you try to sell me maintenance ins., you can put this back & I'll shop elsewhere". If you say you don't want it, they say "may I ask why??". grrrr
What I have now is a Dell 13 - 14" screen, from '02 I typed in att.yahoo.com & yahoo homepage & they still want me to download the ALL NEW yahoo email homepage so I did thinking maybe I'll find my old bookmarks. Lots of ads, & emails were only abbreviated. Then I clicked on 'My Yahoo' - Homepage... took a long time to load...so much JUNK on it. I don't want the NEWS, Horoscope, movies, TV quide, local shopping & other junk. Emails were there, & to the left, it said "HAVE YOU BEEN LOOKING FOR YOUR OLD YAHOO BOOKMARKS?" Lo & behold, there they all were!!! YAHOO did this ON PURPOSE!!!! Can you believe it??!!! They took them & put them on the new yahoo email page that I had to download. I hate yahoo. Now, how do I get a icon on Firefox so I can just click on it to get at emails...hmmm I also need to find a way to get to my att.net email which is my master account. I tried, but either the addy or PW is wrong. Did I say I hate Yahoo? |
Re: What happened to my Bookmarks??
Don't hate Yahoo in general....but I have no doubt their browser kinda sucks. I'm glad you finally have firefox. Trust me, you'll be happy with it!!! If you are bothered by anything underlined in red as 'misspelled' just right click and select 'add to dictionary' and then it will be recognized after that. The auto spell check is a SUPER AWESOME feature of firefox! Definitely utilize that!
