Why would you willingly visit snow?!?

Re: Share an image!
Is that cuy habitat? Puma for sure.
|
Re: Share an image!
Too low for Cuys - that's only 1200 m of elevation. Cuy start appearing at about 1800 m and go up from there. You're bang on about the Puma habitat, though. The colour variant in Loja is sort of a lilac blue; they're very attractive cats.

got ya!!! Any and all persons, events or names are completely fictional, it is actually a plot of one not so well directed movie with Nicholas Cage. :ha: :ha: :ha: :ha: :ha: |
Re: Share an image!
There's a similar region in Ecuador, the Llanganates, where the retreating Incan general Ruminahui is said to have dumped the entire contents of the city of El Dorado (present-day Cuenca), some 15+ tonnes of gold. Still doesn't really want to make me visit the snow.
And I'm not kidding. Jack, if you'd ever moved from close to the Arctic Circle to the heart of the tropics, you'd understand what I'm talking about. |
Re: Share an image!
Just vist Hawaii and you'll know. It is as close to paradise as you can get.
|
Re: Share an image!
I'd beg to differ - there's a whole belt of paradise-type places around latitude 0.
|
Re: Share an image!
Hmm, I ll have to do something about that latitude problem:ha::ha::ha:

For millenia Europeans have lived here, even though there were other, maybe more acceptable places with warmer and more humid climate. This climate of ours, the way of life in temperate and colder climates is so different... we have to adapt, work harder to survive - something that Inca, Mayans and other cultures of tropical regions all over the world didn't have to do. ;) That's why they belong to the past. |
Re: Share an image!
|
Re: Share an image!
Who says the Inca are in the past? The Quichua-speaking peoples are the same culture; the word "Inca" simply means "ruler." They've adapted, just not to a new climate - to new religion, a new language, and new rulers. (And in most cases, they've actually forced those things to adapt to them.)
I'm originally Canadian, Jack, from close to the Arctic circle, so I know all about adapting to the climate. Genetically, I'm of Scots/Viking ancestry. Moving hasn't changed who I am, it's just made my feet warmer in December and made it easier for me to grow bananas. |
Re: Share an image!
Yeah, but Ante, I can make that here. I still don't see any need to willingly expose myself to sub-zero temperatures.

It's always nice to see such piece of history. Whether you go 3 hours to the left or 3 hours to the right, you'll always end up in V.Brdo. These crossroad tables and arrows are interesting yet quite popular phenomenon here too. Once I saw a table that wanted to send you in all four directions to the same place. :ha: |

Paulo, I thought about you when I opened this month's Bark magazine and found an article about the Norman Rockwell exhibit called "Behind the Camera" There are several images containing dogs that he painted that they show in the magazine that are really cool. I'm trying to find them online but in the meantime here is a look at the exhibit.

Your explaination was good. I'm ignorant of this subject. We don't collect art except for afew things painted by family members which aren't worth anything to anyone but us. We try to carry on the personal touch to everything, like the frame for this one is very simple that my husband made with a neighbor telling him how to do it. We did go in and talk to the owner of an antique store once and he said basically the same thing you did. We've ignored the situation for now because of what kind of $$ this could cost if anything can be done at all. I think someone wrote the date on the back and we can see if it goes back far enough to be acid free. I know there is a little story handwritten on the back telling about this painting being bought for a couple pennies and some land traded between the two friends. I just took some pictures of it and will post it. Deb |

Why ruin something like that? :woohoonaner: |
Re: Share an image!
I think everyone is jumping the gun by deleting pictures. I don't post very many but the last year I pulled them in from photoshop because that is where they were. No one told anyone to delete photos. I saw it merely as a decussion that was put out there.
I won't be able to post the picture of Mt. Shasta until tomorrow. My computer froze and now I have the grandkids here that have taken my computer over. Deb |
