same way on this coast. Builder left me with a closet that was 7 inches wider on one side , unfortunitly we didn't find out until the drywall guy was appling the board. Would not answer phone. Only contractor to return was the tile guy to repair a loose tile. All in all the work on the entire house was a bit under par to me but like you are mentioning not many out there that care that much. Good luck.

I worked as a drywall repairman and painter for 33 years and spent about 10% of my time repairing other workers screwups.

Things haven't changed much. You're just getting old and crotchety like I am.

Not many of them even know what they are doing. They think six months experience makes them a pro and they start contracting on their own.

I spent three years in the late '60's and early '70's learning the paint and drywall repair trades before I even thought of taking on work of my own.

That is the problem here.Seems very few take pride in doing a good job, take the money and run.

Thats what I do now is home repair. Some times I am amazed at what I see.. Just lack of knowledge and no consideration what so ever. I've seen licensed contractors pick up guys from the parking lot at a Home Depot and drop them off on a home that was being painted . They went in and replaced the doors . The place was a wreck … I also see home owners going for the cheapest price . And saying do it the cheapest way...

The 10% of my time spent going in behind these types made me 25% of my income.

Trying to get it done cheap costs more in the long run.

You would think they would learn but they don't seem to.

Bottom line: Angie's List !!!

What ya doing?

We can either fix you up with a "guest membership" or else maybe look up a list of contractors for ya.

Read more about it at: Angie's List - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'll NEVER hire a contractor without looking them up on da List!
