I have just received my order of Nelumbo Komarovii seeds from Allseeds Europe today.
I’m not aware of any one ells selling seeds of N.Komarovii and I have been searching for a supplier of them for over 3 years so if like me you would like to have a go at growing this lovely hardy lotus know is your chance, the seeds are cheap too 15 for 4 euro, Geralt who runs this company as been most helpful and I would recommend Allseeds Europe.

Your Nelumbo komarovii looks quite a bite like my Nelumbo 'Bali Red' but with a one big difference. Mine is a tropical lotus. I also grow a lotus that is native to central Florida(which is were mine came from). Mine is the yellow Nelumbo lutea and it grows all the way to Canada.

Thanks Richard, I would love to hear them, but not in my budget at the moment. Alan must be doing quite well it seems. (Although, if you have them perhaps you would burn some for me, just to see if I like it.) I listened to some of his free stuff, it left me wanting to hear more.

I read a lot of books about Eastern cultures, philosophy and history. Especially Chinese and some Japanese. I usually have Chinese music playing in my lab when doing TC work.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the info on the N kamarovii. I didn't know they are all the way into Russia. I am aware they are in China and they have alot of edible tuber sold here at the market. I did try growing them and they grew well but NEVER flowered.

For the other guys out there, can any kind soul please give me a source for ANY of the Yellow colored warm-ish growing seeds of the Nelumbo hybrids? They are not known here at all and I would love to get my hands on them. I have seen pix of them in a book written in the US and they were more than six varieties of the yellow one.

I once saw a couple of Yellow flowered plts in Thailand and bought like 10 cuttings for $30+ each but.... when they flowered, they were White! Got cheated blind on this one!
Any help would be great. Mucho gracias.

Thanks for the reply’s Guys, next summer will be my first attempt at growing Nelumbo’s I have always shied away from them because of my cool summers thinking it would not be warm enough for them, but komarovii has done well in Holland for several years so hopefully it been the most northern lotus it should do well for me in the UK. I would like to try Nelumbo lutea too, does any one know were I can buy seeds of it preferably from its most northern growing place in Canada.

Tony it might be good to get your lutea seed from someone that grows it in an area that has weather like yours. Seed from the north probably would not work like seeds from central Florida for my garden. I know some orchid species that can grow low land and also in the mountains but only the plants that grew or had seed from low land will be able to grow in south Florida.

About lotus for colder climates, well for areas with cooler sorter summers, it seems that besides Nelumbo komarovii also Nelumbo from Korrea are good ones to try. Well according to Werner Wallner.

And here the whole story how the first Nelumbo komarovii got to Europe. It was from the Botanical Garden in Vladivostok that Werner Wallner got his first seeds. And via Florida I got then some seeds. That was more then 10 years ago. And I still grow it here in The Netherlands not far from The Hague.
