What do I do with my new banana pups?

Someone from another forum was kind enough to send me a couple of banana pups for musa basjoo. I was intending on putting one outside in the ground once they get going a bit. I just got them a couple of days ago, and I immediately potted them up into small containers, but they are not doing so well.

They came from British Columbia, Canada, where it is extremely mild weather, with lots of moisture in the air from their frequent rains. I put them in my east window, but the tips have now turned brown. They were a little brown from being in the box over a week, but becoming more brown now. I could tell they did not like the cool bright window sill. I have now taken them to my heat mat and under my fluorescent light, to see if the warmth makes a difference.

This is my very 1st experience with banana, and it is not going too well so far. I am just wondering if there is any advice on how to get a young pup going strong. I am so ignorant about these plants, but I am learning slowly.

Please help me to save my pups...

i would keep them under the fluorescent lights for 14-18 hrs. monitor them and water lightly as needed. i am sure there is nothing wrong with the plants, they just need some light.

I've found my bananas more hardy than anything. They can take a lot and still come back 1-2 months later. If you repot them they will be more sensitive to heat and need to be watered more frequently until the roots develop. I'm actually surprised this round I just moved my Raja Puri into a 45gal smartpot and the leaves started standing back up in about 3 days and new leaves in less than 2 weeks.

Edit: It doesn't get that cold here so thats one thing I've not put my plants through.

Hi HBL, don't worry. You'd look a bit ragged after a week in a box too. Bananas especially basjoo are tough as nails. I though my out door one was toast, and went so far as to dig it up and throw what was left of the corm in a pot...it's up and growing like a champ and I'm sure yours will too. Keep us posted.

It really doesn't look so bad. I had a couple look like that but it was from soil too moist. I let the soil dry out a bit & then watered lightly.

its been 100, 101+ (103 one day) here and very little to no rain so I'm not really worrying about "too moist" myself right now

This is very hot for here we sometimes get a day or two in August over 100 but ~15 days by mid July, I don't think I've ever seen it that hot.

Hello!

Well, I had two basjoos that were not doing well, but check them out now! One is outside in my lily garden, and the 2nd one is inside under my fluorescent light...
